Q. When does an internship
take place?
A. Employers have adjusted their training schedules to accommodate
students taking a school "semester" off to fulfill an internship.
Flexible training dates for students allows employers valuable evaluation
time. Winter/Spring January through April or May Summer May or June
through August Fall September through December
Q. How many hours does an
internship involve?
A. A typical internship lasts a semester, and involves 40
hours a week of supervised work experience. In general, preparation
of written reports and papers required by your school are not typically
included as part of the 40 hours.
Q. How much does an internship
through OASIS cost?
A. The cost of securing an internship through OASIS is $500
(USD). All fees and costs incurred over the course of an internship
are typically the responsibility of the student, but can in some
cases be shared by an employer and/or your University.
Q. How will I know if my internship
meets my University's requirements?
A. When you fill out an OASIS internship application, it's
a good idea to include a copy of your school's internship requirements
along with it. OASIS does supply a packet to each employer with
required information about how to prepare an internship "training
program". This training program will describe objectives, activities
and list supervisors that the student will work under during the
semester. This information will help students prepare for the internship,
assisted by their school. If your school has additional requirements,
OASIS can get more involved as necessary.
Q. What if I need housing
while I complete my internship?
A. OASIS can provide you with information about short-term,
all inclusive rental properties. Please visit www.orlandointerns.com
for more details.
Q. How will I get back and
forth to my internship?
A. Orlando/Central Florida covers a vast area; so many students
bring a vehicle as a means of transportation. As with most metropolitan
cities, parking is always an issue. Interns that utilize group housing
can often take advantage of carpooling. There are public transportation
options as well.
Q. How will I know how to dress
for my internship?
A. It's best to speak directly with your internship supervisor
about any dress code requirements before you arrive and begin the
internship process. All OASIS internships offer students the opportunity
to show their character, including how they conduct themselves in
a professional atmosphere.
Q. What if I'm planning to
attend graduate school?
A. Graduate career development issues are unique. They include
evaluating academic and nonacademic career choices, discussing graduate
school's effects on career choices, as well as learning, evaluating,
and refining networking and interviewing skills. If you're interested
in attending graduate school, OASIS is happy to assist you in exploring
all of your options.
